Dunnarts
Sminthopsis species

There are about four varieties of dunnarts found in the south-west. They are small marsupials about the size of a mouse and weigh about 20grams.
Populations fluctuate depending on the season, but they do not appear to be under threat. They inhabit woodlands, mallee, eastern jarrah forest, shrublands, heaths and grasslands.
They are aggessive nocturnal hunters, tackling large invertebrates and lizards, subduing them with rapid bites.
It is rare for males to survive over two breeding seasons.
