There are several species of
phascogales, the one at left a brush-tailed phascogale. This squirrel-like marsupial is a fantastic climber and is fearless of heights. The life of a male is short as the stress of mating kills it, so they last less than a year. Adults grow to about 40cm long. They live in jarrah and mixed jarrah-karri forests. They are on the list of species to be monitored in WA and are considered endangered in the eastern states. There are colonies in the extreme north of the state and also in the south-west corner.
