"Noble Rot" is the common term for the parasitic fungus (Botrytis
cinerea) that attacks ripe grapes, causes an increase in their sugar
content and produces delicious late-harvest wines.
Noble Rot Theatre Company is a new professional company
established in Margaret River, one of the world's premier wine growing
regions.
Since its inception in 2005, Noble Rot has had sell-out seasons of
all its productions, and provided the artistic direction for Margaret River’s
first ever wine harvest celebration—The Vintage Stomp—which
has already established itself as a major annual regional festival.
In recognition for its success in securing 100% business-sector sponsorship, and
promoting tourism in the region, Noble Rot and Voyager Estate
Winery were the winners of the Tourism Western Australia Award in
the Western Australian State Arts Sponsorship Scheme Awards (Department
of Culture and the Arts, 2005).
It
aims to:
- Reflect and respond to the unique locations, talents, seasons
and themes of the region, by producing entertaining, stylish, site-specific
theatre in the many diverse and challenging venues in the region;
- Collaborate with corporate organisations (e.g. wineries, restaurants,
etc) to produce theatre and other events;
- Work with the local community
to develop collective creative enterprises; and
- Develop the skills of
local, non-professional performers through offering classes, workshops
and the opportunity to participate in professional productions.
