Australian Aboriginal people have lived in the Margaret River region for more than 55,000 years. Their existence has been uncovered in archeological digs in some of the local caves along the Leeuwin-Naturaliste ridge.

Now, for the first time, their presence along the famous ridge of land has been formally recognised with the opening of a centre with the dual aims of education and protection of local Aboriginal heritage.

The Wardandi people, who are the traditional owners of most of the land in the Margaret River area, have chosen to share aspects of their culture with visitors in an effort to increase understanding and reconcilliation within the wider community.
